We provide specialized palliative care to the palliative patients within South Canterbury. Hospice is available to all patients in a palliative or terminal phase of their illness. The aim of Hospice palliative care is to maximize the quality of a person's life. This enables family and carers to have time out when the need arises and our staff can provide assessment and supportive care for the patient during the day.

The Hospice Shop is staffed by volunteers and has a wide range of women's and men's clothing, costume jewellery, china, glass, silverware and small items of furniture.

What happens to my Donation?

This year Hospice South Canterbury needs to raise over $700,000 from the local community to meet the shortfall between the government funding provided through our local district health board and what is required to ensure hospice care services throughout the region. Unlike many other charitable organisations hospice specialist nursing care is are available around the clock.ie; 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, your donations are essential to maintain this service.

Complementary therapies

Work alongside conventional medical treatments. They promote feelings of relaxation, wellbeing and can also help with emotional and physical symptoms.

Our therapeutic services are available for all patients with a life limiting illness.

The focus of hospice is to provide specialist palliative care for patients with complex cancer management issues Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Motor Neuron Disease and other conditions.

Specialist support ... for Pain, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, delerium and distress, Councelling for emotional concerns and spiritual distress and Family and Whanau support.
